Role Summary

Director, External Manufacturing - Small Molecule. Manage a team of Manufacturing Professionals assigned to Third Party Manufacture contracts for small molecule products, ensuring high quality production in compliance with regulations and delivering according to forecasts, schedules, and cost plans.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of AbbVie TPM Account Managers to negotiate Manufacturing Service Agreements and amendments, ensure compliance with terms, and implement effective planning and material procurement strategies to supply TPMs with required materials.
  • Ensure global logistics support all phases of the manufacturing agreement in line with Purchasing and Supplier quality expectations.
  • Provide timely communication to the TPM on all aspects of the product agreement including forecasts, manufacturing and delivery schedules.
  • Lead the development of Financial Operating Plan, Updates, Long-Range Plan (LRP), and standard processes; ensure financial goals are met.
  • Monitor manufacturing performance using appropriate metrics and ensure processes and standards deliver product per AbbVie quality expectations.
  • Coordinate with internal AbbVie partners to ensure TPM has required quality systems and documentation to meet regulatory requirements; manage inspections, QA reviews, audits, and timely deviation investigations and disposition decisions.
  • Lead a culture of performance improvement across TPMs; guide Account Managers to pursue efficiency and effectiveness improvements.
  • Coach managers, set clear expectations, and model AbbVie performance and talent management practices.
  • Coordinate routine management reviews and maintain ongoing communications with internal and TPM stakeholders on performance, issues, actions, and improvements.
  • Represent Manufacturing with internal Brand Teams as needed, and develop/manage staff through hiring, performance management, and talent development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in a technical field; advanced technical degree (Master’s or Doctorate) strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience including individual contributor technical work and proven project management skills.
  • Progressively increased responsibility in Operations (Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering, etc.) as a supervisor, department manager, or leader of diverse teams.
  • Business acumen with functional leadership experience to drive high performance in a complex operation.
