Role Summary

Director, Engineering and Design leads engineering and design for a greenfield pharmaceutical manufacturing site in Wilson, NC. The role oversees complex capital-project engineering and design activities aligned with Johnson & Johnson business objectives, coordinates with SMEs and partners, and drives an industrialized project-delivery approach with reusable digital design standards. Travel is required initially to co-locate with the selected AE Design Firm, with relocation to a commutable distance of the Wilson site thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall engineering process including process and infrastructure design working closely with operating company engineering team and J&J SMEs.
  • Assure that the J&J IDEA Project Delivery Process is followed.
  • Work with the E&D Director, Project Dir./Project Mgr. to drive the performance (cost, schedule, quality) of A/E firm and define correction action plans if necessary.
  • Establish plans for personal talent development, diversification, and professional development.
  • Develop personal yearly project and personal goals and objectives that support the overall J&J E&PS and development goals.
  • Execute short- and long-term tactical engineering initiatives and programs based on strategic project goals and objectives.
  • Assure use of the Value Improving Practices (VIPs) Value Engineering and Constructability Reviews.
  • Assure the appropriate J&J standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements (cGXP, EHS, โ€ฆ) are incorporated.
  • Coordinate/lead key design reviews with SMEs including other corporate or affiliate resources such as EHSS, Risk Management, WW Security, etc.
  • Assure that the J&J Standard Design Platforms are deployed on all projects. Setup project specific training for internal and external SMEs.
  • Assure projects meet the J&J Sustainability policy and drive the certification process.
  • Review AE progress and identify action plans where required to get back on track. Implement Earned Value tracking on larger projects. Ensure AE issues timely Monthly Reports.
  • Lead effort to resolve key design conflicts in construction and commissioning phase with appropriate SMEs.
  • Lead in the final close-out with the A/E firm including the Lessons Learned process.

Education

  • Bachelorโ€™s or higher degree is required, preferably in Engineering
  • Masterโ€™s degree in engineering, Business, or related field is preferred

Qualifications

  • Required: Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience with engineering design and construction including knowledge of AutoCAD Systems.
  • Required: Minimum of five (5) years of related project management experience.
  • Required: Experience with project management related systems/tools such as SharePoint, Document Management systems, CMMS, MS Project, Project Management Processes and/or Property Management Tools.
  • Required: Solid project management skills, proven organization, coordination, and action tracking skills; including project management processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Required: Strong business acumen and relationship building skills.
  • Required: An ability to effectively partner and deliver results in a matrixed environment.
  • Required: An ability to adapt to emerging standard methodologies and industry innovations.
  • Required: Ability to function effectively and multitask when presented with tight deadlines.
  • Required: Excellent technical and analytical skills.
  • Required: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Preferred: Experience leading complex workstreams, specifically across geographically dispersed or global teams.
