Discover Your Role
- Develop and implement long-term operational strategies for Critical Utilities and Facilities Maintenance across a complex pharmaceutical/biotech campus.
- Lead organizational development: team structure design, workforce planning, and operational model optimization across internal staff and outsourced providers.
- Establish and continuously improve maintenance, reliability, and capital planning to strengthen system performance, resiliency, and compliance.
- Provide executive oversight of Central Utility Plant and Powerhouse operations to ensure safe, uninterrupted utility delivery.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, R&D Operations, EH&S, Quality, Procurement, and Capital Projects to support infrastructure initiatives and campus growth.
- Drive governance, performance management, strategic vendor oversight (metrics, operational reviews, budget planning, risk mitigation).
This Role Requires
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Power, Marine, or Energy Engineering, or 15 years equivalent experience (Navy Nuclear Power School plus 10 years accepted).
- 10+ years leading central utility or power-plant operations (chilled water, steam, emergency power) within a hybrid facility management model; strong contract management and vendor governance.
- Proficiency with building automation systems (Metasys, EcoStruxure, or Desigo).
- Proven team leadership across internal staff and outsourced providers.
- Valid NYS driver’s license; up to 25% travel.
- Convert maintenance data into reliability improvements.
- Hold rigorous safety and regulatory standards in high-risk environments.
- Clear communication with researchers, engineers, and executives; flexible with travel.
- Motivate/coordinate mixed teams (technicians, union trades, third-party providers).
- Balance hands-on problem solving with strategic planning, budgeting, and long-range asset management.
- Keep utility plants, chillers, boilers, and generators running with zero unplanned downtime.
