Role Summary

Director, Commercial Learning and Development is responsible for overseeing the design, development, and implementation of U.S. commercial training curricula, providing expertise in program implementation, and mentoring a team of therapeutic area training managers. This role requires remote work in the U.S. with up to 25% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of learning and development programs for the U.S.
  • Lead and guide new hire orientation, onboarding and knowledge/skill-based training
  • Design, develop and deliver employee development programs with HR Business Partners
  • Partner with management to define training needs through determination of knowledge gaps and needs assessment
  • Actively seek out new, cutting edge technology to further improve training initiatives and build efficiency
  • Stay abreast of and leverage Gilead best practices, and industry best practices
  • Support process for evaluating training effectiveness; revise training and/or training plan as needed
  • Identify, develop and deploy appropriate learning mechanisms to include: instructor-led, and web-based training
  • Drive strategic management of Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Incorporate motivating, creative, and interactive training techniques to maximize learning and retention
  • Formulate management development criteria, programs and management training across all therapeutic areas
  • Partner with senior members of internal departments to align Learning and Development with strategic department vision
  • Use broad strategic thinking to analyze business environment and training needs
  • Analyze ROI for training expenditure and adjust to keep programs relevant and valuable
  • Collaborate with regional commercial operations leads to establish strategic plans and objectives

Qualifications

  • Required: 12+ years of work experience with a Bachelor's degree, including 10+ years related to training, sales, and sales management in biotech or pharmaceuticals, with at least 3+ years in commercial training; OR 10+ years of relevant experience with a Master's degree
  • Required: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to lead, interact, resolve conflicts, and drive consensus across diverse cultures and disciplines
  • Required: Negotiating, influencing, and consulting skills with proven project management ability
  • Required: Proven curriculum development and instructional design skills
  • Required: Fundamental understanding of business strategy and how to link HR initiatives to business initiatives
  • Required: Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
  • Required: Expertise with web-based training tools and high-level technical and computer skills
  • Required: Understanding of learning principles and their application in a technical business environment
  • Required: Experience in the learning design and development process
  • Preferred: Medical or clinical background; experience with HIV, HBV, and HCV
  • Required/Preferred: High proficiency in English, both spoken and written
  • Preferred: Advanced degree (MS, MBA, or Doctorate)
