Job Description
- Communicates/presents key Clinical Pharmacology information/strategy to senior and executive management, regulatory agencies, and external peers.
- Supports strategic planning for drug development activities and projects to achieve departmental strategies, goals, and objectives.
- Utilizes scientific expertise to interpret data and relate implications of results to management.
- Serves as liaison to other departments/divisions for study/project needs.
- May lead teams within Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics and is accountable for effective team performance.
Responsibilities
- Leads Clinical Pharmacology/PK/PD activities and multiple major projects; assists R&D senior management with action plans to meet drug development objectives.
- Identifies issues; performs risk assessments and contingency planning; ensures alignment with strategic objectives.
- Provides overall timelines; negotiates project outcomes/deliverables with functional areas balancing time, cost, and quality/performance.
- Provides scientific and strategic consultation to R&D, Regulatory, and management on critical decisions and development plans.
- Evaluates technical/scientific aspects of projects; reviews clinical protocols and reports for regulatory filings; leads Clinical Pharmacology regulatory document writing/submission and responses to agency comments.
- Independently conducts due diligence assessments; represents Clinical Pharmacology on business development teams.
- Identifies and develops process improvement initiatives.
- Contributes to departmental goals; influences strategic PK/PD decisions.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of PK/PD data analysis, modeling and simulation methods/software.
- May manage personnel (development, mentoring, delegation).
Qualifications
- Director I: PhD with 7+ years (or PharmD with 9+ years); MS with 15+ years; BS with 17+ years in a relevant field (PK, PBPK, PK-PD, Pharmacometrics, systems pharmacology, drug metabolism/transporters).
- Excellent interpersonal skills; knowledge across multiple therapeutic/functional areas.
- Experience across development phases; knowledge of AbbVie/pharma drug development processes.
- Demonstrated leadership in PK/PD, Biopharmaceutics, and Pharmacometric activities across multiple projects.
- Scientific project leadership; project management (scope, progress tracking/driving, time management).
- Key leadership competencies (business acumen, resilience, respectful/courageous actions, creative thinking, cross-functional influence, open communication, constructive conflict management).
