Job Description
- Communicates/presents key Clinical Pharmacology information/strategy to senior and executive management, regulatory agencies, and external peers.
- Supports strategic planning for drug development activities and projects to achieve departmental strategies, goals, and objectives.
- Uses scientific expertise to interpret data and relate implications to management.
- Serves as liaison to other departments/divisions for study/project needs; understands business linkages and impact of business decisions.
- May lead teams within Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics and is accountable for team performance.
Responsibilities
- Leads Clinical Pharmacology/PK/PD activities and multiple major projects; assists R&D senior management in selecting action plans.
- Identifies issues, supports issue resolution, conducts risk assessments, and develops contingency plans.
- Provides overall timelines; negotiates project outcomes/deliverables across functions to balance time, cost, and quality/performance.
- Provides scientific/strategic consultation to R&D, Regulatory, and management on critical decisions and development plans.
- Evaluates technical/scientific aspects of projects; reviews protocols/reports for regulatory filings; leads regulatory document writing/submission and responses to agency comments.
- Conducts due diligence assessments; represents Clinical Pharmacology on business development teams.
- Identifies/develops process improvement initiatives; contributes to departmental goals and influences strategic PK/PD decisions.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of PK/PD data analysis, modeling, and simulation methods/software; may manage personnel (development, mentoring, delegation).
Qualifications
- PhD (typically 7+ years) or PharmD (typically 9+ years); MS (typically 15+ years) or BS (typically 17+ years) in a relevant field (PK, PBPK, PK-PD, Pharmacometrics, systems pharmacology, drug metabolism/transporters).
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge/experience across multiple therapeutic and/or functional areas; across a range of development phases.
- Knowledge of AbbVie/pharma drug development processes.
- Demonstrated leadership in PK/PD, biopharmaceutics, and pharmacometrics from planning through completion across multiple projects.
- Scientific project leadership and project management skills (scope, progress/time management).
- Leadership competencies: business/cross-functional understanding, persistence/resilience, respectful/courageous action, original idea generation, cross-functional influence/alignment, open communication, constructive conflict management.
