Clinical Research and Development
Responsibilities:
- Communicates/presents key Clinical Pharmacology information/strategy to senior/executive management, regulatory agencies, and external peers.
- Supports strategic planning for drug development activities and projects to achieve departmental strategies, goals, and objectives.
- Interprets data using scientific expertise and relates implications to management.
- Serves as liaison to other departments/divisions for study/project needs; understands cross-business linkages and impacts of business decisions.
- May lead teams within Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics and is accountable for effective team performance.

- Leads Clinical Pharmacology/PK/PD activities and multiple major projects; assists R&D senior management with selection of action plans.
- Identifies issues, performs risk assessments, supports contingency planning, and ensures alignment with strategic objectives.
- Provides portfolio timelines; negotiates outcomes/deliverables with functional areas to balance time, cost, and quality/performance.
- Provides scientific/strategic consultation to R&D, Regulatory, and all levels of management on critical decisions and development plans.
- Evaluates technical/scientific aspects of projects; reviews protocols/reports for regulatory filings; leads regulatory documents writing/submission and responses to agency comments.
- Independently conducts due diligence assessments; represents Clinical Pharmacology on business development teams.
- Identifies/develops process improvement initiatives and sponsors approved recommendations.
- Contributes to departmental goals; influences strategic PK/PD decisions.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of PK/PD analysis, modeling and simulation methods/software.
- May manage personnel, including development, mentoring, and delegation.

Qualifications:
- PhD with typically 7+ years OR PharmD with typically 9+ years in a relevant field; MS with typically 15+ years; BS with typically 17+ years.
- Relevant field includes experience with PK, PBPK, PK-PD, Pharmacometrics, systems pharmacology, drug metabolism/transporters.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; knowledge/experience across multiple therapeutic/functional areas.
- Experience across range of development phases; knowledge of AbbVie/pharma drug development processes.
- Demonstrated leadership competencies in PK/PD, biopharmaceutics, and pharmacometric activities (planning through completion across multiple projects).
- Scientific project leadership; project management (scope, progress tracking/driving, time management).
- Participates in initiatives and advancement of Clinical Pharmacology.
- Key leadership competencies: cross-functional business understanding; persistence/resilience; respectful yet courageous; connects unrelated concepts/generates original ideas; influences for alignment; communicates openly; manages conflict constructively.
