Responsibilities:
- Set vision and strategy for cheminformatics capabilities and platforms that accelerate scientific learning and decision-making in drug discovery.
- Lead a multi-site team of cheminformatics and data science specialists across data engineering, analytics, and scientific software development.
- Develop talent and build an inclusive, high-performing team culture.
- Engage stakeholders across the drug discovery spectrum (target identification, chemical biology, lead optimization, safety) to enable impactful solutions.
- Translate scientific challenges into scalable data architectures, workflows, and algorithmic approaches deployable across projects.
- Drive next-generation cheminformatics workflows integrating modern technologies (ML incl. generative/predictive modeling, knowledge graphs, emerging AI).
- Ensure capabilities are deployed and adopted with project teams and modeling partners.
- Partner with IT to co-develop robust, sustainable platforms supporting scientific workflows.
- Balance strategic investment in new capabilities with effective use of existing solutions.
- Collaborate with leaders across Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Quantitative Biology, and Modeling to align on data science strategy and priorities.
- Work with Modeling, Structure, and Biophysics leadership to identify cheminformatics opportunities.
- Maintain visibility across the discovery portfolio to identify emerging scalable needs.
Education:
- BS, MS, or PhD in a relevant STEM field (e.g., cheminformatics, bioinformatics, chemistry/biology, data science, AI/ML, computer science, statistics).
Required Experience/Skills:
- PhD with 7+ years (or MS with 9+ years, or BS with 13+ years) applying computational/data science to interdisciplinary drug discovery problems.
- 2+ years managerial experience.
- Experience designing modern computational workflows (cloud, coding best practices, MLOps/DataOps).
- Strong understanding of cheminformatics, data analytics, and data engineering in early drug discovery.
- Experience enabling predictive modeling and advanced analytics in a matrixed environment.
- Ability to collaborate across functions and influence strategy.
- Experience partnering with IT to co-develop scalable platforms.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement.
