Role Summary

The Director, Business HR- R&D serves as a strategic partner to the assigned function, shaping culture and delivering talent strategies to meet short-term and long-term business objectives. This role leads the development and implementation of human resources programs and practices, partners with senior leaders to drive leadership development, talent management, and organizational effectiveness, and oversees a team of HR professionals to deliver high-impact results.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary strategic partner to the business. Lead the creation and implementation of HR strategies to meet organizational and business needs.
  • Coach, consult, and influence business leaders regarding leadership development, succession planning, and talent management; build strong relationships to drive strategic insights.
  • Develop and implement strategies to attract, develop, and retain talent; lead talent development and succession planning efforts.
  • Ensure effective delivery of HR programs and services, responsible for HR results including client satisfaction, HR effectiveness, and financial results.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key HR partners across Centers of Excellence and Service Centers to coordinate HR elements to meet business needs.
  • Provide consultation on organization design and effectiveness to optimize performance.
  • Drive people manager development to enhance accountability and employee experiences; promote a culture of engagement, performance, and inclusion.
  • Identify and execute change management and communication strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Model and coach AbbVie Ways We Work with Business behaviors.
  • Manage and leverage human and financial resources for delivered project services; understand budgets, headcount management, and capital planning.
  • Build, develop, deploy, and coach a team of HR professionals.
  • Prioritize critical projects based on business needs and resources; identify trends and innovative approaches to processes.
  • Develop proposals to resolve strategically important HR issues with an enterprise mindset; lead large-scale, multi-year transformation initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 12+ years of relevant HR experience
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting the business; strong business acumen
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills in a complex environment
  • Project management or business experience
  • Experience in organizational development, design, and effectiveness
  • Experience supporting a global business and partnering with internationally-based leaders and HR colleagues
  • Strategic thinking with experience leading multiple programs and initiatives and prioritizing effectively
  • Broad understanding of functional/CoE HR roles and their impact on the business
  • Experience presenting to senior management and engaging employees at all levels
  • Supervisory or leadership experience

Education

  • Bachelor's degree
