Role: Cytotechnologist responsible for screening and evaluating gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens to detect malignancies or abnormalities. Core responsibilities include microscopic evaluation of liquid-based cytology (manual and imaged), slide screening, accurate documentation, and timely reporting of results. Tasks may also involve assisting with Fine Needle Aspirations and maintaining compliance with CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, and safety protocols. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a biological or chemical science, completion of a Cytology program, ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) certification, and TN state Cytotechnologist license. Preferred qualifications include a master's degree in Cytology, over 3 months of cytology experience, and certifications in ThinPrep and SurePath. Additional standards involve passing slide screening, proficiency tests, and demonstrating knowledge of cytology prep techniques, automation, and lab operations. Experience in high-volume clinical laboratories, proficiency with laboratory information systems, and strong attention to detail are essential. The position is based at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN, with a Monday–Friday schedule, rotating Saturdays, and potential for overtime or shift flexibility. The role emphasizes adherence to laboratory safety, infection control, and HIPAA policies.
