Cyber Defense Principal Engineer

Role: Senior cyber defense strategist at Alnylam, responsible for designing and executing the company's cloud and enterprise security architecture to enhance threat detection, investigation, and response capabilities. Key responsibilities include developing a long-term security roadmap, architecting scalable security platforms such as SIEM/SOAR, leading detection engineering efforts across cloud, endpoint, and network environments, and integrating automation and AI/ML solutions for proactive threat management. The role also involves serving as a technical advisor to leadership on complex incident response and enterprise risk mitigation. Requirements: 10+ years in cyber defense disciplines (security engineering, threat hunting, incident response), strong programming skills (Python, Go), proven experience with security platform migrations, and deep knowledge of modern security tools (SIEM, SOAR, EDR/XDR, cloud security). Preferred qualifications include expertise in behavioral analytics, threat hunting frameworks like MITRE ATT&CK, and experience supporting insider threat programs. This senior individual contributor role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to operate within a global enterprise environment. The position is hybrid, based primarily in Cambridge, MA, with participation in an on-call rotation and support for incident response outside standard hours.
