Corporate Affairs Director, Research

Responsibilities:
- Develop communications strategies and plans to consistently communicate research science and innovation to targeted key audiences; execute approved plans and deliver measurable results.
- Develop and support an executive engagement plan for the Research SVP and key VPs, including preparing company spokespeople (media training/presentation skills).
- Partner with media relations to address incoming research media requests and proactively garner trade press coverage to position Amgen as part of the transformation in drug discovery.
- Partner with product communications and therapeutic leads on therapeutic area strategy and positioning.
- Manage and direct public relations agency partners to maximize impact and help achieve communications goals.
- Partner with Research leaders and HR on employee engagement and internal communications.
- Partner with investor relations to ensure message consistency to external audiences, including media and the financial world.

Basic Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree + 4 years of communications or public relations experience
- Or Masterโ€™s degree + 7 years of communications or public relations experience
- Or Bachelorโ€™s degree + 9 years of communications or public relations experience

Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Public Relations, Communications, or Journalism
- Experience working in-house or within a PR agency
- Biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or healthcare product public relations (corporate experience highly desired)
- Hands-on scientific/research communications experience (desirable)
- Strong oral and presentation skills; ability to negotiate and persuade
- Outstanding writing skills and proven, results-oriented media relations skills
- Strategic/creative thinker who can develop actionable programs aligned with business objectives
- Ability to navigate a fast-changing, challenging environment and rapidly changing priorities
- Ability to interact with all levels of management; manage staff and vendors
- Strong analytical and creative thinking for a dynamic communications environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills; enthusiastic team player/self-starter; dedication to hard work and excellence

Location:
- Thousand Oaks or San Francisco (highly preferred)
