Role Summary

Controller role based in Cambridge, MA, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. The Controller will oversee all aspects of accounting and financial reporting for CAMP4 Therapeutics, manage a growing accounting team, ensure compliance with US GAAP and SEC regulations, and support the companyโ€™s strategic financial initiatives as it scales.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the accounting team, currently composed of two direct reports, with responsibility for mentoring, performance management, and team development.
  • Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and treasury.
  • Drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and disclosures in compliance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and review technical accounting memos to support complex transactions and ensure appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Manage external audits and coordinate with auditors to ensure timely and successful completion.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls and accounting policies to ensure compliance with SOX and other regulatory standards.
  • Support equity accounting, stock-based compensation, and complex financial instruments.
  • Collaborate with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Clinical, R&D, Legal, and HR teams to support financial operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Evaluate and implement financial systems and process improvements to support scalability and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
  • Required: 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.
  • Required: Experience in a public biotech or life sciences company.
  • Required: Strong knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting, and SOX compliance.
  • Required: Proven experience managing and developing accounting teams.
  • Required: Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite) and financial reporting tools.
  • Required: Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Preferred: Experience supporting clinical-stage biotech operations and managing R&D spend.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with public equity financing instruments and related accounting.
  • Preferred: High integrity, attention to detail, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.

Education

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
