Role Summary
Controller role based in Cambridge, MA, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. The Controller will oversee all aspects of accounting and financial reporting for CAMP4 Therapeutics, manage a growing accounting team, ensure compliance with US GAAP and SEC regulations, and support the companyโs strategic financial initiatives as it scales.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the accounting team, currently composed of two direct reports, with responsibility for mentoring, performance management, and team development.
- Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and treasury.
- Drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Prepare and review financial statements and disclosures in compliance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
- Prepare and review technical accounting memos to support complex transactions and ensure appropriate accounting treatment.
- Manage external audits and coordinate with auditors to ensure timely and successful completion.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls and accounting policies to ensure compliance with SOX and other regulatory standards.
- Support equity accounting, stock-based compensation, and complex financial instruments.
- Collaborate with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Partner cross-functionally with Clinical, R&D, Legal, and HR teams to support financial operations and strategic initiatives.
- Evaluate and implement financial systems and process improvements to support scalability and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
- Required: 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.
- Required: Experience in a public biotech or life sciences company.
- Required: Strong knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting, and SOX compliance.
- Required: Proven experience managing and developing accounting teams.
- Required: Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite) and financial reporting tools.
- Required: Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Preferred: Experience supporting clinical-stage biotech operations and managing R&D spend.
- Preferred: Familiarity with public equity financing instruments and related accounting.
- Preferred: High integrity, attention to detail, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
Education
- Bachelorโs degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
