Role Summary

Computational Medicinal Chemist, Computer-Aided Drug Design. Join our vibrant and innovative Computer-Aided Drug Discovery (CADD) team in California to redefine target validation and development within Biomedical Research. We seek an exceptional computational scientist to help extract knowledge from data and forge new paths in drug discovery.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the design of medicinal chemistry efforts by applying SAR, structure-based and ligand-based drug design, understanding target biology, and predictive methods for on-/off-target activity, physical properties, PK/PD, and synthetic feasibility.
  • Collaborate at the intersection of experimental and digital technologies, emphasizing machine learning, active learning, and physics-based CADD methodologies for small molecule drug discovery.
  • Stay abreast of scientific literature and integrate biological insights into lead characterization and screening initiatives.
  • Work with interdisciplinary project teams to facilitate decision-making across target identification, lead optimization, and drug candidate nomination, including predictive models from high-content and time-resolved screening data and imaging.
  • Generate hypotheses to enhance clinical success rates for programs involving small molecules, peptides, RNAs, protein degradation, molecular glues, transient covalent inhibitors, and kinetic stabilization of drug-target complexes.
  • Lead cross-disciplinary mechanistic studies using physics-based modeling, biophysical characterization, and cellular validation to inform discovery strategies and MoAs.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry, computational biology, computational chemical biology, or related field; or laboratory-based background in chemistry/biology with strong computational experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with project teams in a drug discovery environment.
  • Proven track record of innovation through analogue design with potential impact on discovery projects is a plus.
  • Familiarity with drug design tools, high-performance computing environments, and a strong publication history in peer-reviewed journals.

Skills

  • Proactively anticipates project needs with a clinical focus.
  • Demonstrates rigor in idea substantiation, analogue design, and experimentation.
  • Strong team orientation with multitasking and adaptability in support and leadership roles.
  • Effective listening and strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in data visualization to communicate insights effectively.
