Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Competitive Intelligence Director – Early R&D who will join AstraZeneca’s BioPharma R&D Strategy group to influence leadership decisions by delivering analysis and insights on the competitive landscape. The role focuses on expanding leadership by identifying pioneering trends in the preclinical and early clinical space, with a deep scientific understanding of key therapeutic areas (Cardiovascular Renal Metabolism or Respiratory & Immunology). As an Associate-Director/Director-level position, it acts as AstraZeneca’s eye on emerging scientific disruptive trends.

Responsibilities

  • Influence investment decisions by delivering analysis and insights to Senior Leadership and other key partners to ensure a full understanding of the constantly evolving landscape.
  • Own the delivery of competitive analysis, using your deep knowledge of the therapy area and external resources to shape future-proofed therapy area (TA) analysis
  • Establish strong working relationships across key cross functional stakeholders
  • Help define complex business problems, and create intelligence reports and analysis to aid in evidence-driven strategic decision-making
  • Ensure alignment of competitive intelligence deliverables with key organizational priorities, conduct research, analyze data, derive actionable insights and ensure they are communicated to and understood by Senior Leadership
  • Monitor the outside environment through secondary research (databases, patents, communications, congresses, biotech ecosystem)
  • Identifying key changes in AZ understanding of the competitive intensity and opportunities in real time
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, able to synthesize complex information into digestible CI insights and recommendations that drive strategic decisions
  • Responsible for the management of specific elements of CI budget and TA vendor relationships

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences/ Medicine, Computational biology, Informatics, Business analytics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science or related field. PhD or MBA level.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with data, analysis and fact-based decision-making
  • A critical, innovative thinker with a background in clinical / research or investment analysis
  • Specific strategy experience
  • In-depth understanding of clinical data, clinical trial design or regulatory frameworks
  • Highly intellectual with excellent analytical skills and learning agility
  • Experienced in leading cross-functional teams with ability to influence without authority
  • A clear communicator with the ability to communicate complex issues simply
  • Resourceful, motivated, decisive and proactive; able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-growing organization

Education

  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences/ Medicine, Computational biology, Informatics, Business analytics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science or related field. PhD or MBA level.
