What You Will Achieve
As part of the Comparative Medicine team, provide basic husbandry, handling, restraint and health surveillance of laboratory animals in compliance with federal/local regulatory requirements. Maintain inventory of animal supplies and provide basic technical assistance (restraint, injections, blood collections) to support research studies.
How You Will Achieve It
- Perform routine animal husbandry duties as directed
- Observe and report animal health, food/water consumption, appearance and behavior
- Support basic veterinary medical treatment as prescribed
- Support cage wash equipment operations and maintenance
- Support research with basic technical services (restraint, dose administration, blood collection) to investigators
- Work with all species housed at the site; comply with USDA Animal Welfare Act and associated regulations/standards, Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, Good Laboratory Practices, PHS Policy and/or AAALAC accreditation standards
Qualifications (Must-Have)
- High school degree or GED with 2–3 years of experience
Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
- AALAS certification preferred
- Experience working with laboratory animals
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Lift 50 lbs; work standing and lift above shoulder level for extended periods
- Repetitive physical activities: pushing/pulling racks, lifting feed/bedding, reaching, stooping, bending
Work Schedule/Environment
- Weekend and holiday work required; Essential Personnel role (on-site during emergencies/suspensions)
Compensation/Benefits
- Salary: $26.86–$44.77/hour; overtime and pay premiums eligible
