Role Summary
We are seeking a skilled Cloudflare engineer to design, optimize and maintain our global edge network and security configurations. In this role you will work closely with infrastructure and security teams to ensure our applications are fast, secure, resilient and highly available. You will be responsible for managing Cloudflare services including CDN, WAF, Workers, Load Balancing and DNS. This is a hybrid role based in Lake County, IL (T, W, TH).
Responsibilities
- Design, configure and maintain Cloudflare services such as CDN, WAF, Bot Management, Rate Limiting, Access, Argo, Load Balancing and SSL/TLS
- Manage Cloudflare DNS, including advanced routing and failover configurations
- Implement and optimize performance features such as caching rules and network optimizations
- Monitor and tune WAF rules, security events, firewall policies and bot mitigation strategies
- Collaborate with the security team to address threats, perform incident response and enhance security posture
- Build and maintain infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions for Cloudflare using Terraform, API scripting or CI/CD pipelines
- Automate monitoring, reporting and configuration tasks
- Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting across the edge network
- Provide documentation, training and guidance on Cloudflare tooling and architecture
- Monitor and troubleshoot Cloudflare-related issues impacting performance, latency, routing or security
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in relevant field and at least 5 years relevant experience OR Masters degree in relevant field and at least 4 years experience
- 2-5 years of experience working with Cloudflare or similar edge/CDN platforms
- Experience with automation and IaC tools (Terraform preferred)
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Strong understanding of:
- HTTP/HTTPS, TLS, caching strategies
- DNS, networking, and routing concepts
- Web security fundamentals (WAF rules, DDoS mitigation)
