The role requires strong attention to detail and clinical mindset to provide accurate test results to patients and medical practitioners. Works within CLIA/CAP/NYS/FDA compliant laboratories.

Responsibilities

  • Perform DNA extractions, PCR amplification, and high-throughput sequencing assays on DNA libraries in accordance with standard laboratory processes.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including liquid handling robotics and DNA sequencers.
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately, following strict methodologies (e.g., routine sample processing, validations, reagent QC, special projects).
  • Provide guidance to less-experienced staff.
  • Train and/or assess competency for team members on high-complexity molecular methods (Level II).
  • Suggest changes to existing procedures to improve efficiency and results (Level III).
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and Good Documentation Practices; manage data in LIMS; participate in regulatory responsibilities per GMP, GCP, and GLP.

Qualifications

  • Required: Molecular biology skills (DNA extraction, purification, PCR, qPCR, next-generation sequencing) and related technical knowledge; experience working with human specimens and biohazardous material; strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • As well as Level I requirements: Bachelor’s or higher in medical technology/laboratory science or in chemical/biological sciences with relevant molecular experience; or equivalent combination with CLIA accreditation.
  • Level II: Bachelor’s in relevant field; minimum 1 year of high-complexity clinical laboratory experience; minimum 3 years of pertinent molecular laboratory experience; Master’s or higher may substitute for some experience.
  • Level III: Bachelor’s in relevant field; minimum 3 years of high-complexity clinical lab experience; minimum 5 years of molecular laboratory experience; advanced knowledge of automation and best practices; Master’s or higher preferred.
  • Preferred: ASCP(MB) certification; experience in high-throughput clinical environment; working knowledge of LIMS and laboratory automation; experience with Adaptive’s Sample Prep or PCR/Sequencing technologies; strong independent work and teamwork capabilities.

Education

  • Bachelor’s or higher in medical technology, laboratory science, chemical science, or biological science from an accredited institution. Some roles may allow related backgrounds with required experience in high-complexity molecular methods.

Skills

  • Strong clinical judgment and integrity; ability to troubleshoot assay or instrument issues; effective communication within the team.
  • Proficiency in laboratory procedures, data management, and documentation practices; ability to work independently or with supervision as required by level.
  • Experience with laboratory automation, molecular methods, and electronic Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to work assigned shifts that may include late evenings and weekends; ability to sit or stand for extended periods; perform data entry.
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements and safety practices; ability to handle human specimens and biohazards.
