Job Summary
- Plan and direct ophthalmology clinical research activities for new or marketed medicines across all phases of development. May manage full clinical development cycle (design, initiation, execution, monitoring, analysis, regulatory reporting, publication).

Responsibilities
- Plan clinical trials based on clinical development strategy.
- Provide medical oversight and ensure overall conduct of ongoing or new clinical trials.
- Analyze and summarize clinical findings to support safety/efficacy decisions, regulatory filings, clinical study reports, and publication.
- Participate in internal and cross-functional/internal-external research project teams (new compounds and further study of marketed compounds).
- Support business development assessments of external opportunities.

May
- Engage other functional areas to support study execution.
- Work with cross-functional experts (commercialization, regulatory affairs, statistics, manufacturing) to manage clinical development projects.
- Inform colleagues on progress of internal and competitor studies.
- Provide expert internal/external scientific input within scope.
- Maintain scientific knowledge, identify strong investigators, build investigator communications, and attend scientific meetings.

To accomplish these goals, may
- Author development documents, presentations, budgets, and position papers.
- Facilitate global collaborations.
- Travel ~25%.

Education
- M.D. or M.D./Ph.D.

Required Experience/Skills
- Industry or academia (faculty) experience; minimum 3 years clinical medicine.
- Minimum 1 year industry ophthalmology drug development or ophthalmology-focused academic biomedical research.
- Scientific scholarship; proven clinical medicine and biomedical research background.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal/written communication, and presentation skills.

Preferred
- Board Certified or Eligible in ophthalmology (or related discipline).
- Prior clinical research experience and prior publication.
