Position Summary/Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary point of contact for internal customers.
- Identify potential vendors; analyze competitive bids; negotiate costs/terms; document savings/value; recommend purchasing method.
- Drive vendor strategies and cost-savings initiatives across scientific-services categories (e.g., CRO/contract research, regulatory outsourced services).
- Issue RFQs/RFPs to approved suppliers; coordinate stakeholder Q&A; compile side-by-side bid comparisons (pricing, timelines, assumptions/exclusions, risk/capacity).
- Manage supplier relationships via regular business reviews, vendor presentations, and performance discussions; act as main communications contact.
- Interface with external partners to troubleshoot issues and ensure contractual obligations and service levels.
- Support development of a competitive vendor base and sourcing pipelines.
- Partner with Procurement Associates on complex invoicing, customer inquiries, purchasing/financial systems, and PO request reviews.
- Partner with Legal to ensure appropriate agreements (MSAs/SOWs, confidentiality, data/privacy, IP/ownership, publication terms as applicable).
- Analyze spend/trends and maintain/refresh category plans/strategies and preferred supplier lists.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Supply Chain, or a scientific discipline.
- 3+ years strategic sourcing/procurement in an R&D organization or supporting scientific services spend.
- End-to-end RFx sourcing, negotiation, and documenting savings/value.
- Working knowledge of contracts and scientific-services commercial structures (rate cards, milestone SOWs, T&M, change controls).
- Proficiency with MS Office; experience with Oracle/SAP, Ariba (CatMan), Spend Control Tower, and BI/reporting tools.
- Strong stakeholder partnership; analytical mindset; clear written/verbal communication; integrity and attention to detail.
Work Model/Travel:
- Hybrid (50%) in Kalamazoo, Michigan; travel as business needs dictate.
