Job Title: Calibration / Metrology Technician
Responsibilities:
- Calibrate and repair precision Measuring and Test Equipment (M&TE), Test Measurement & Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE), and instrumentation in a Standards Laboratory and/or on-site field environment.
- Verify instrument performance against established specifications (accuracy, precision, etc.); perform verification, adjustments, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Apply metrology techniques (e.g., linearity, hysteresis, bias) and use math/algebra, scientific notation, and unit conversions between metric and Imperial/British units.
- Exercise independent judgment for problem solving, troubleshooting, analyzing circuits, and using schematic/wiring diagrams.
- Calibrate multiple measurement disciplines including:
- Pressure & Vacuum (gauges, transmitters, bourdon tubes, Pirani gauges, manometers, barometers, CDGs, dead weight pressure standards/piston gauges, controllers, regulators, vacuum pumps/chambers, etc.)
- Temperature & Humidity (thermometers/PRTs/thermistors/thermocouples/IR, resistance bridges using ITS-90, dataloggers, fixed point cells, fluid baths, dry block calibrators, chambers, chilled-mirror standards, dew point, etc.)
- Electrical calibration (DMMs, process calibrators, multifunction calibrators, conductivity meters, frequency standards, resistance decade boxes, standard resistors, current clamps/shunts, power supplies, signal generators, oscilloscopes, tachometers, etc.)
- Flow (flowmeters/rotameters/anemometers, flow standards/laminar elements, thermal mass flow, sonic nozzles, wind tunnels, centrifugal air samplers, etc.)
- Dimensional (gauge blocks, micrometers, calipers, pin gauges, go/no-go gauges, vision machines, CMMs, laser ruler/interferometer, surface plates, torque wrenches, load cells, height/drop gauges, etc.)
- Desired: Familiarity with software such as IBM Maxmio, Fluke Met/Cal, Fluke COMPASS, Mettler Calibry, Mettler MC-Link.
- Desired: Knowledge of PMEL and standards/methods such as ISO 17025, ANSI Z540.1/Z540.3, ISO 9001, NCSL, ISO GUM uncertainty, TUR/TAR, repeatability/reproducibility, Gauge R&R, MSA, statistics/QC charts, and Out of Tolerance (OOT) investigation.
- Manage workload efficiently in a fast-paced team environment while practicing cGMP in an FDA-regulated environment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 4 yearsโ experience as a Senior Instrument Technician (or equivalent).
- Associateโs degree in electronics technology (or equivalent) strongly desired.
- College coursework and/or ASQ Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) certificate a plus.
- Plus: Experience with analytical instruments (analytical balances, HPLC, GC, MS, UV-Vis, etc.).
- Must manage activities to meet restrictive timelines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
