BTS Director (Hybrid)

Role Summary

The Director leads AbbVie's R&D Information Research within the Business Technology Solutions organization, overseeing business relationship management, technology project delivery, and strategic planning. This global role directs a team of 14+ employees plus contractors, reporting to the Sr. Director of Information Research, and aims to deliver technology strategies that support business goals and influence the Medical Affairs domain. The position requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to work in a dynamic, matrixed environment with senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Strategy & Influence: Works with domain senior leadership and contributes to strategy; adapts and executes domain strategic plans.
• Process Improvement & Optimization: Drives opportunities to improve process and/or technology.
• Decisions & Policies: Makes key decisions guided by established strategies; influences operating policies and interprets enterprise-wide policies.
• People Management: Manages a team(s) of managers and senior managers with significant autonomy.
• Impact: Makes long-lasting decisions that heavily influence the future of the business and/or technology domain.
• Resource Management: Contributes to domain resource management strategy and organizational structure.
• Liaison & Relationship Building: Builds collaborative relationships with business and technology leaders; maintains strong relationships with internal and external collaborators.
• Culture: Demonstrates AbbVie’s Ways of Working and Leadership Attributes; manages performance, develops talent, and ensures accountability for strategic functions.
• Executive Presence & Communication: Exhibits strong communication and interpersonal skills; translates complex problems for leadership and end users at all levels.

• Delivery Leadership: Has a track record of delivering large, complex IT projects.
• IT Pricing & Contracting: Holds in-depth knowledge of pricing and contracting practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with 10 years of experience OR Master’s degree with 9 years experience OR PhD with 5 years experience minimum
• Effectively connects employee and BTS functional goals to business and/or overall Abbvie goals; excellent written and verbal communication; proven ability to drive outstanding performance and engagement
• Experience managing teams of at least 10 people with a mix of managers, employees, matrixed teams, virtual teams, contractors and managed service providers
• Ability to communicate problems in terms understandable to BTS Leadership and end users at all levels
• Subject matter expert in technology and/or business domain
• Experience managing a budget of at least $10 million
• Experience in technology operation, strategy, planning and implementation and/or relevant business domain preferred

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree with 10 years of experience OR Master’s degree with 9 years experience OR PhD with 5 years experience minimum
