Role Summary
Medical Science Liaison (MSL) or Senior MSL for Breast Oncology, serving as the local medical voice in the disease area and building a local medical strategy to improve patient care and outcomes in the territory. The MSL is an established field-based professional with extensive scientific, clinical, and therapeutic area expertise responsible for providing medical and scientific support for AstraZeneca's oncology products, new indications for current products, and compounds in development. Territory includes Michigan, Ohio, Northeast Indiana, and Kentucky.
Responsibilities
- Act as the local medical leader responsible for developing a tailored strategy to meet the AZ USMA priorities in the disease area, as well as local specificities and patient needs.
- Develop strong working relationships in different external business settings (e.g., academia, hospitals, managed markets, private practices).
- Lead scientific exchanges with oncologists and key members of the MDT.
- Lead peer-to-peer scientific/medical interactions.
- Gather insights on the treatment landscape, evolving healthcare environment and practice, barriers to optimal treatment and patient care, or opportunities to improve outcomes of patients with cancer.
- Discuss with KOLs data and educational gaps to ensure adequate use of our medicines and to inform our R&D strategy to address patient needs.
- Stay current with scientific knowledge and attend relevant scientific meetings and conferences.
- Collaborate with ClinOps on trials from feasibility to execution.
Qualifications
- Required: Advanced scientific degree (e.g., PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, PA, NP) in a relevant health science or clinical discipline.
- Required: Ability to express ideas clearly in written documentation, one-on-one conversations, and small group dialogues; ability to navigate within a matrix environment.
- Required: 2+ years of MSL experience or relevant therapeutic area experience.
- Required: Demonstrated expertise in discussing scientific content and context to multiple audiences; strong understanding of clinical study design and protocols; basic understanding of the healthcare system, clinical trial methodology, statistics, and regulatory environment.
- Required: Excellent project management ability.
- Required: Ability to travel 40–60% domestically by car, train, and plane.
- Preferred: Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical discipline.
