Role Summary

Biomedical Machine Learning Innovation Scientist at Novartis within the Artificial Intelligence & Computational Sciences (AICS) team, focusing on applying advanced AI/ML methods to drug discovery. The role ensures scientific rigor and innovation for AI applications in drug discovery and serves as the SME liaison between AICS and BR Disease Areas and Function Areas.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of AI researchers and subject matter experts to apply AI to drug discovery.
  • Collaborate with AI modelers to ensure models are robust and performant.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Product Development to deliver AI solutions.
  • Raise awareness of AI applications to help answer key research questions across BR.
  • Position AI-aided drug discovery contributions to progress BRโ€šร„รดs portfolio, enabling new therapeutic discoveries, shortening cycle times, and increasing efficiency.
  • Act as liaison for identification of research questions, solution design, and evangelism of AI results and impacts across BR.
  • Regularly communicate with AICS teams, the broader data science community, and senior scientists.
  • Initiate and lead high-value internal collaborations across BR.
  • Design translatable metrics for AI models to produce tangible impact in collaboration with BR DAs and FAs.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of significant experience in innovation, development, deployment, and ongoing support of machine learning data management and modeling in an enterprise environment.
  • Specialization in at least one core drug discovery functional area (e.g., target identification, computational chemistry, protein structure modelling and design, translational medicine).
  • Expertise in delivering advanced analytics insights to a large research organization and a deep understanding of drug development.
  • Entrepreneurial, proactive attitude with a passion for understanding emerging technologies and integrating them into business solutions.
  • Ability to balance requirements, manage expectations, and drive results with proactive issue resolution.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and influencing skills with a track record of teamwork.
  • Functional leadership capability with excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
