Description:
Wave needs a motivated, detail-oriented individual to work in bioinformatics, computational biology, and human genetics in support of drug discovery. The role involves designing and executing sequence-based machine learning projects; creating and deploying data; testing hypotheses in human genetics and bioinformatics; and building next-generation genetics/bioinformatics tools for oligonucleotide therapeutics. Works with an interdisciplinary team of chemists, biologists, and software developers.
Experience (preferred/plus):
- Discovery and development of oligonucleotide therapeutics
- Working with high-performance compute environments
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to large data projects; design/build pipelines to process/analyze data, store summary results, and integrate with corporate ELN
- Build applications for bioinformatics/human genetics pipelines in R (Shiny) and Python (Streamlit)
- Use AI-enabled tools (generative AI/coding assistants) to accelerate development and analysis with validation, reproducibility, data security, and responsible use
- Contribute to storage-and-compute scalability best practices for large bioinformatics datasets
- Develop pipelines to determine mapping coordinates and homology of oligonucleotides to genomes/transcriptomes
- Use version control best practices (Git)
Key Skills/Qualifications:
- Deploy interactive apps using R/Python (Shiny/Streamlit)
- Relational databases; MySQL is a plus
- NGS analysis (mapping, gene expression quantification, and/or variant calling)
- Bioinformatics tools: Samtools, GATK, Bowtie, HISAT2, BLAST, htseq-count, DESeq, Salmon, STAR, Subread
- Illumina data analysis (PacBio/Nanopore is a plus)
- UNIX; proficiency in Python or R; Docker and Nextflow strongly recommended
- Ability to communicate NGS findings to a general scientific audience (oral/written)
