Role: Primate Behavioral Specialist responsible for implementing and improving environmental enrichment and social management strategies for nonhuman primates, primarily macaques. Objectives include promoting psychological well-being, managing breeding and social groupings, and ensuring optimal animal care standards. Responsibilities involve developing breeding strategies, managing social group compatibility, implementing enrichment and training programs, performing behavioral assessments, and collaborating with veterinary and animal care teams. Tasks also include writing SOPs, participating in AAALAC accreditation and IACUC activities, and supporting client communication and audits. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, 8+ years of experience with old-world primates or similar lab animals, with 2-3 years of primate behavioral study; AALAS LATG certification preferred. Skills: proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint; strong communication skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively; understanding of Animal Welfare Act related to primates. High-Value: focus on nonhuman primate management in research, behavioral studies, enrichment, social group formation, and reproductive management. Work setup: may involve work in extreme temperatures, holiday/weekend hours, and possible travel; position level varies based on experience.
