Role Summary

Automation Technician U-05 - 2nd Shift. Use Your Power for Purpose. Design, develop, maintain and repair automation systems to support manufacturing processes and ensure compliance with cGMP and OSHA standards. Collaborate with engineering to install, program, maintain and troubleshoot automation equipment to help deliver medicines to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Preventive and Predictive Maintenance of electrical and controls systems, following CMMS guidelines, procedures, and manufacturer maintenance practices.
  • Report opportunities identified during Preventive Maintenance; recommend improvements to maintenance tasks.
  • Follow maintenance plans and alerts to ensure schedule compliance; generate maintenance work orders for tasks outside scope.
  • Install, repair, inspect, test, replace and maintain control systems/components.
  • Manage QBMS/BMS functions, wiring diagrams, backups, and automation reports; maintain PLC control systems.
  • Implement and modify programs (PLC, HMI, SCADA, BMS/QBMS, Historian, Robots, SQL, etc.); install and configure automation system software.
  • Install, maintain, inspect and replace electrical and communication wiring; interface with computers for data entry and retrieval (trend/alarms).
  • Install, replace and troubleshoot VFDs, encoders, motors, and vision systems; manage automation disaster recovery and SDLC documentation; manage user accounts for automation systems.
  • Monitor, investigate, document and address automation alarms daily; repair and maintain automation devices.
  • Develop solutions to routine problems following Pfizer policies; maintain safe work practices and a clean jobsite; participate in safety training.
  • Provide project support for capital initiatives including installation, commissioning, qualification, testing and startup/shutdown verification.
  • Follow Good Documentation Practices (21 CFR Part 11, Data Integrity) and complete maintenance documentation and logbooks.
  • Read and follow SOPs, job aids, PMs, and work orders; complete sterile garb training and work aseptically in manufacturing areas.
  • Assist in training colleagues; suggest changes to maintenance tasks or SOPs.
  • Follow EHS procedures and report any abnormal situations affecting environment, health or safety.
  • Assist other trades as needed; operate power trucks/lifts; maintain housekeeping; escort contractors; perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Required: High school diploma or GED.
  • Required: 3+ years of experience in industrial PLC, controls or automation maintenance, repair and troubleshooting.
  • Required: Ability to read, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs; knowledge of programming languages (Ladder, SFC, Structured Text, Function Block).
  • Required: Electrical and instrumentation skills; knowledge of industry practices and standards; basic mathematics; strong time management and problem-solving skills; excellent communication and work ethic.
  • Required: OEM training and certification in industrial automation systems (e.g., Rockwell PLC/HMI/SCADA/BMS, Fanuc, network architecture, Systech vision systems).

Education

  • High school diploma and/or GED.

Skills

  • Industrial automation systems installation, configuration and maintenance.
  • PLC/SCADA/HMI programming and troubleshooting; QBMS/BMS management.
  • Electrical wiring, instrumentation, VFDs, encoders, motors; data trends and alarm reporting.
  • Documentation, compliance with 21 CFR Part 11 and data integrity; GMP training and sterile environments.
  • Safety training and EHS procedures; ability to work in a team and train others.

Additional Requirements

  • Physical: Lift up to 40 lbs; work at heights; use PPE; ability to operate ladders and lifts; penicillin facility occupant must not be allergic to penicillin.
  • Non-standard work schedule: 2nd shift core hours 3:00pm–11:30pm, with overtime, weekends, and potential long hours during shutdowns; union position after 30 days; on-premise location.
