Role Summary

Automation Engineer located in Swiftwater, PA. Responsible for supporting and overseeing site automation and manufacturing systems, providing SME-level expert support for automated process control systems, and coordinating changes, testing, troubleshooting, and on-call support to ensure compliant, efficient manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • The Automation Engineer will oversee automation control systems within the whole site but mostly dedicated to Buildings with DeltaV system.
  • System Integration: Ensure seamless integration of automation systems with digital applications to support production, quality control, and data management.
  • Deliverable Accountability: Ensure compliance with GMP and regulatory standards (C&Q), including specification development, test protocols, and system validation; collaborate with clients to tailor strategies.
  • Risk and Compliance Management: Identify and proactively manage risks; ensure GMP compliance to minimize disruptions.
  • Training and Support: Develop and deliver training materials; provide ongoing post-implementation support.
  • Collaboration and Documentation: Work with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Facilities, and Tech Transfer to capture and document detailed requirements.
  • Standards and Best Practices: Develop standards for development and validation; lead design reviews and UAT during development change and validation.
  • Operational Meetings: Participate in facility operational meetings to meet reporting needs.
  • Operational Oversight: Monitor, troubleshoot, and support automation systems (PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and other control systems) to maximize uptime and efficiency.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process and system improvements to enhance performance and reduce costs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Align automation with production goals and regulatory requirements across teams.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure automation activities comply with GMP and safety standards; address compliance issues proactively.
  • On-Call Support: Provide on-call support during off-shift hours on a rotating schedule.

Qualifications

  • Automation and Engineering: Minimum 4+ years of direct experience in DeltaV control system and automation support; biopharma or related industries preferred.
  • Process Control Systems: Knowledge of DCS (DeltaV), SCADA, PLCs, and related automation technologies; experience with data acquisition from PLCs to higher-level applications using OPC.
  • Soft and Technical Skills: Team collaboration, analytical/problem-solving abilities, and clear communication across diverse stakeholders.
  • Education: Bachelorβ€šΓ„Γ΄s degree in engineering or related technical field (electrical, chemical, mechanical, automation, Computer Science, Biotechnology) relevant to biopharma.
  • Languages: English proficiency (written and spoken).

Skills

  • Experience with DCS, PLC, SCADA, BMS, EMS and HMI systems.
  • IoT device integration knowledge.
  • Biopharma automation experience.
  • ISA-95 and ISA-88 familiarity.
  • Problem-solving and project management skills; cybersecurity awareness for automation systems.

Education

  • Bachelor degree in engineering or applicable technical field related to biopharma automation.

Additional Requirements

  • On-Call availability as part of rotating schedule.
  • Ability to coordinate contractors and support site change controls; participate in investigations of process deviations.
