Role Summary

Automation Engineer responsible for automation design and oversight for Lilly's Lebanon LP2 facility. Will collaborate with system integrators, support life cycle management, engineering information management, and cyber security, and help drive automation governance to enable startup into GMP manufacturing operations at a greenfield site in Lebanon, IN.

Responsibilities

  • Safety – work safely, improve personnel and equipment safety, ensure safe design and operation of new equipment, and reflect safety concerns in automation design.
  • Automation Design – design and implement automation strategies that allow operators to interact with the process in compliance with cGMP batch manufacturing requirements; generate/update Design SDLC documentation.
  • Automation/Control Discipline – support and enhance automated systems and equipment, adjust PID control parameters, perform solution assessments and performance reviews, support replication and development, manage tools and engineering standards, and provide technical coaching and consultation.
  • Projects & Technologies – support integration of new equipment/technologies into the manufacturing workflow; support automated system commissioning and qualifications; stay current on external trends to evaluate applicable technologies.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Required: 5+ years of experience in automation or process control.
  • Preferred: Experience with Emerson DeltaV Systems, Rockwell Automation, OSI/PI Historian, or related automation platforms.
  • Preferred: Expertise in Rockwell Automation platforms including FactoryTalk View SCADA and ControlLogix PLCs.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of drug product/substance manufacturing processes, plant utility systems, building management systems, IT/Automation integration, and experience in pharmaceutical/GMP industries.
  • Preferred: OSI/PI Data Historians or related technology; Microsoft operating systems, virtualization, and networking; strong communication skills.
  • Preferred: Experience in Automation Project Delivery for Major Capital delivery and technical leadership in automation project delivery.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.

Additional Requirements

  • Onsite position based in Lebanon, IN with relocation required; not fully remote.
  • Some travel required, including international travel; typical travel not to exceed 10–20%.
