The Automation Engineer is responsible for overseeing and optimizing automation systems to improve production efficiency and reduce operational costs in pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.

Essential Functions:
- Develop control systems to automate upstream/downstream equipment (Mixers, Coaters, Pouchers, Cartoners, Packaging Lines, Lab equipment, facility systems, stability chambers, BMS, CIP/SIP, Water System Controls, Tablet Press, Fluid Bed Dryers, Granulators, Vision Systems, etc.).
- Perform programming, qualification, and validation of digital process automation systems; provide 24x7 on-call support (technical support/troubleshooting).
- Conduct formal systems acceptance testing (software simulation; hardware/equipment acceptance).
- Complete documentation for recordkeeping; assist with procedure updates; monitor equipment; ensure preventative maintenance; calibration monitoring; engineering analysis; train coworkers.
- Read/verify/develop P&IDs, engineering layouts, engineering drawings, and engineering documents.
- Implement projects per GAMP for validation of automated systems.
- Coordinate electrical construction and validation activities with Manufacturing, QA, QC, and R&D; maintain VMP/GMP documents; support process validation/development; ensure safety.
- Perform hands-on installation, operational start-up, calibration, and commissioning.
- Support Change Control; update client documentation (test plans, production implementation).
- Apply batch coding standards (batch operations, unit procedures, procedural recipe components).

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Electrical Engineering or related field (Required).
- 3+ years experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs, electrical circuits/machinery, and HMI in industrial/manufacturing plants (food or pharmaceutical) (Preferred/Required per listing).
- 3+ years with a Master’s in Electrical Engineering or related field.

Specialized Knowledge:
- Ability to comprehend/verify/develop P&IDs, engineering layouts, electrical/controls diagrams, engineering drawings; PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD, and PID controller programming; project management.

Compensation/Benefits:
- Base salary: $90,000–$100,000/year; short-term incentive/bonus or performance-based award within first 12 months; comprehensive health/insurance and 401(k) matching.
