Position Summary
You will execute the major elements of the site Automation Strategy and provide Lead Process Automation expertise (Pharmaceutical Fill/Finish/Packaging) to the Zebulon site, delivering compliant instrumentation, automation, business and control systems for new and existing pharmaceutical facilities, Building Management Systems, and Environmental Monitoring Systems.
Responsibilities
- Maintain expert knowledge of automation technologies and serve as site expert in at least 3 disciplines: Field Instrumentation, PLC, SCADA, Historians, MES, Virtualization/Integration (middleware, OPC, XML).
- Deliver high-value automation projects meeting business requirements (functionality, cost, quality, time).
- Provide process automation expertise and lead safety assessments as appropriate; ensure compliance with relevant policies/procedures/local codes.
- Partner with Production, Technical, Planning, Engineering, and Quality to deliver agreed technology benefits; manage automation group requests.
- Contribute and leverage technology across Shared Services, Centers of Excellence, and other sites while maintaining standards.
- Use performance management/standard work to manage priorities.
- Deliver measurement/control of Quality Critical Attributes (QCA) and help develop Process Critical Control Points (PCCP).
- Train and support onsite Users/Engineers; provide SME support for regulatory inspections.
Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering/instrumentation/controls/computer science or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years delivering pharmaceutical automation.
- Hands-on programming and troubleshooting for automation/instrumentation/IT.
- Experience interfacing with operational and senior management.
- Experience with SCADA/MES integration or industrial communications (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC).
Qualifications (Preferred)
- FDA PAT understanding; Six Sigma/Lean (Black/Green Belt desirable).
- Technical expertise across ISA/P&ID/instrumentation/electrical diagrams/networks/HMI; MES/SCADA/PLC (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens); validation (GAMP), cGMPs, 21 CFR Part 11; project management; EHS practices for automated plant; SPC; automation support/maintenance; strong communication.
Work Arrangement
On-site/hybrid/remote per site; occasional on-call support and travel.
