The Associate Vice President of Applied Intelligence for Discovery (AI4D) will own the technical vision and execution for AI capabilities that enable discovery researchers across therapeutics areas to work in entirely new ways, aligning capabilities with research priorities and driving adoption that turns platform potential into scientific impact. Define the strategic direction for AI and data science capabilities to deliver measurable research acceleration while maintaining rigor required in regulated drug development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and lead a multidisciplinary team spanning data science, ML engineering, and scientific software development
- Set technical vision and roadmap for AI/ML platforms serving discovery research, aligned with enterprise priorities
- Own the full platform lifecycle: identify/integrate new AI capabilities; sunset legacy solutions; optimize portfolio performance
- Guide architecture for end-to-end ML workflows (data pipelines, feature engineering, model development, deployment, monitoring)
- Serve as executive champion for AI capabilities and influence resource allocation
- Establish and manage strategic partnerships with technology providers and research institutions
- Drive adoption of MLOps for reproducible, automated, and compliant AI development at scale
- Partner with technology and therapeutic area leaders to deliver high-impact AI applications
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Computer Science, Data Science, Computational Biology, or related field
- 10+ years AI/ML or data science; 5+ years leading teams
Additional Skills/Preferences:
- Track record scaling AI/ML in complex matrixed organizations with measurable impact
- Expertise in ML frameworks, MLOps, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP)
- Ability to translate between scientific questions and technical solutions
- Experience influencing without direct authority; pharmaceutical/life sciences/healthcare experience
