Position Summary

The Lilly Gene Therapy group is seeking an independent, self-motivated, and highly skilled scientist who will help build the company’s mRNA production and mRNA technology exploration platform. The successful candidate will support R&D efforts within the company, focused on pre-clinical mRNA production and exploration of therapeutic mRNA optimization strategies. A deep technical background in mRNA biochemistry, mRNA synthesis, and mRNA purification is required. Strong organizational and communication skills, creative problem-solving, and flexibility is essential.

Job Responsibilities

  • Produce mRNA samples to support internal and external collaborations.
  • Perform routine biochemistry experiments, including in vitro transcription, purification, quality evaluation, etc.
  • Collaborate with CMC and production teams to harmonize pre-clinical and clinical grade production technology and quality metrics.
  • Develop and utilize strategies to synthesize and modify RNA molecules to achieve desired properties.
  • Contribute to projects directly at the bench.
  • Clearly communicate results and recommendations to collaborators, colleagues, managers, and senior management.

Basic Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related scientific field with 2+ years of relevant post-graduate work experience. Or a Bachelors Degree in those areas with 5+ years of relevant post-graduate work experience.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Hands-on experience with mRNA synthesis and purification techniques is required.
  • Hands-on experience with ÄKTA systems and UNICORN control software is required.
  • Track record of conducting laboratory experiments, excellent documentation review and writing skills, and the flexibility to work on multiple projects as needed.
  • In-depth understanding of purification of biologics, specifically mRNA, including process scale-up. A proven track record of purifying multiple drug modalities is strongly preferred.
  • Experience and understanding of technical challenges with mRNA as a therapeutic modality is required. Experience with several mRNA modalities (linear mRNA, saRNA, circRNA, etc.) is an advantage.
  • Track record of completing deliverables within specified timelines.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and in a collaborative work environment.
  • Familiarity with Design-of-Experiments (DOE) is a plus.

Compensation

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$69,000 - $179,300

Benefits

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
