Overview
The Research Department at Alnylam is seeking a motivated Associate Scientist II to join our team to support the CNS (Central Nervous System) Delivery group in the receiving and storage of nonclinical compounds samples. We are seeking a highly organized individual that is able to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory setting. This Associate Scientist II must collaborate on a team and coordinate tasks with various stakeholders to ensure deadlines are met.
This position is onsite and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to study design and execution of studies to characterize molecules for RNAi therapeutic programs, including rodent disease models
- Develop and conduct assays such as qPCR, western blot, and hELISA, that support in vivo studies
- Perform in vivo procedures in rodents, including administration of therapeutics via established methodologies
- Analyze and interpret the data
- Prepare clearly articulated experimental reports and data presentations
- Prepare of SOPs/protocols
- Present data to groups within and outside of Research
- Maintain database of samples used for nonclinical studies ensuring accurate and prompt storage of samples
- Track samples in databases including but not limited to Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN), Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Smart Refrigeration systems, Smartsheet’s and other proprietary databases.
- Support preparation of nonclinical tissue samples (i.e. weighing, grinding, and lysis) to extract target siRNA for downstream analysis
- Complete assignments in a timely and clearly documented manner
- Handle tasks quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced work environment
- Communicate openly and directly with lab group in order to provide sufficient solutions that will work for all team members
Qualifications
- Minimum B.S. degree in a life sciences-related discipline such as Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or Genetics
- 1+ years of experience in laboratory research
- Basic rodent in vivo skills (animal handling, subcutaneous/intravenous dosing, blood collection, and necropsy/dissection expertise)
- Ability to perform and troubleshoot assays independently or with limited direction of supervisor(s)/project leader(s)
- Demonstrate keen knowledge of experimental design, underlying scientific principles, and the ability to rigorously and independently analyze results, propose future directions and generate clear reports
- Must be flexible, open to new tasks and challenges and able to work on tight deadlines
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to function in a high capacity within a fast-paced team environment.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, eagerness to learn, and the ability to follow written and verbal instruction.
- Working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Experience with purification and quantification of RNA, including qPCR assay, is a plus.
