Job Description

Wave Life Sciences is a biotechnology company focused on unlocking the broad potential of RNA medicines to transform human health. Our RNA medicines platform, PRISM, combines multiple modalities, chemistry innovation and deep insights in human genetics to deliver scientific breakthroughs that treat both rare and prevalent disorders. Our toolkit of RNA-targeting modalities includes editing, splicing, RNA interference and antisense silencing, providing us with unmatched capabilities for designing and sustainably delivering candidates that optimally address disease biology. Our diversified pipeline includes clinical programs in Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and Huntington’s disease, as well as a preclinical program in obesity. Driven by the calling to “Reimagine Possible”, we are leading the charge toward a world in which human potential is no longer hindered by the burden of disease.

Description

Wave is seeking an experienced and highly motivated biologist to join its research team in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This is an ideal position for an individual with a strong background in drug discovery and early drug development who thrives in a team-oriented, fast-paced, and cross-disciplinary biotech environment. This successful candidate will contribute to all levels of discovery research to support the development of optimized nucleic acid therapies for neuromuscular disorders.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience) with 3–4 years of research experience, or a Master’s degree with 1–2 years of post-graduate research experience

Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, and analyze molecular biology and pharmacology experiments to support the advancement of therapeutic programs and discovery research platforms targeting neuromuscular diseases
  • Develop and optimize in vitro assays, including cell culture, high-throughput screening, next-generation sequencing (NGS), quantitative PCR (qPCR), protein quantification and analysis, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) differentiation, and imaging-based cell functional assays
  • Perform in vivo sample processing and execute pharmacodynamic studies to evaluate the efficacy and mechanism of candidate therapeutics
  • Demonstrate strong experimental design skills, efficient assay development, and creative problem-solving abilities to address technical challenges in drug discovery
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to present, discuss, and troubleshoot experimental outcomes, supporting the preclinical evaluation of oligonucleotides therapeutic modalities

Key Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in cell culture techniques, including maintenance and differentiation of iPSC-derived neurons, myoblasts, and primary cell cultures
  • Proficient in molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, such as qPCR, ELISA, MSD, Western blot, and high-throughput automation platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize experiments effectively, adapt to changing priorities, and a strong desire to learn new techniques
  • Hands-on experience in drug discovery research for neuromuscular diseases, including target validation, assay development, and preclinical evaluation, is strongly preferred
  • Experience with in vitro neuronal function and high-content imaging assays is preferred
  • Prior research experience in neurodegenerative diseases or neuromuscular diseases is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with NGS methods and oligonucleotide therapeutics is a plus
