Role Summary

We are looking for someone to join our dynamic team in a critical role involving the veterinary care of pigs. The Associate Veterinarian/Research Veterinarian position is a hands-on role that is responsible for performing day-to-day operations at the swine research facility. This involves activities related to routine veterinary care of the USDA covered species, surgical / post-operative care and procedures, disease testing, euthanasia and others. Must be able to maintain animal health and other USDA/FDA related record and be able to follow SOPs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day operations at the swine research facility, including routine veterinary care, surgical and post-operative procedures, disease testing, and euthanasia.
  • Maintain animal health records and USDA/FDA documentation; adhere to SOPs.

Qualifications

  • Required: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) with 2+ years of experience in veterinary practice.
  • Required: 1+ years of experience providing veterinary care to pigs.
  • Required: 1+ years of experience performing medical tests, observing behavior, collecting samples, and administering medications.
  • Required: Must not have any other interactions with pigs outside of the company.
  • Required: Physical Demands:
    • Lift 75 lbs to waist level
    • Carry 50 lbs
    • Push/Pull 200 lbs on wheels
  • Required: For Associate Research Veterinarian Level: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) with 2+ years of experience; 1+ years of pig care; 1+ years of medical testing experience; physical demands as above.
  • Required: For Research Veterinarian Level: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) with 5+ years of veterinary practice; 3+ years of pig care; 3+ years of medical testing; Licensed Medical Veterinarian Virginia license, USDA Level II Accreditation, eligible for DEA license; proficient in surgical skills including abdominal and general surgery (caesarean section); must not have other interactions with pigs outside the company; physical demands as above.
  • Preferred: Licensed Medical Veterinarian in Virginia with USDA Level II Accreditation and eligibility for DEA License; proficient in surgical skills including caesarean sections.
