Role Summary

The Process Control Engineer provides automation support for manufacturing operations in accordance with GMP and safety guidelines. Responsibilities include change control, deviation investigation, routine and off-hours automation system support, and leading non-routine automation projects. The role applies first principles to deliver engineering solutions, may design new control strategies for chemical processes, and collaborates with teams to optimize manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide frontline automation technical support to manufacturing operations for process control system software and platforms.
  • Configure process control systems and troubleshoot computer system software.
  • Perform data mining and analysis to identify improvements in the manufacturing process.
  • Design and implement automation related changes to manufacturing operations.
  • Lead investigation of automation related deviations.
  • Perform system support activities (e.g., system backups, performance monitoring, password maintenance).
  • Provide off hours automation support to operations.
  • Work in a manner consistent with Lilly policies, procedures, and standards; maintain safety of self and others.
  • Automation design and delivery of new process units; provide project management and technical leadership; oversee specialists/contractors.
  • Utilize S88 and fundamental engineering principles; develop and execute life-cycle plans for automation systems.
  • Research and maintain familiarity with control strategies/technologies and pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
  • Mentor technicians, specialists, and engineers in technical and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor of Science in Engineering; minimum 2 years of industrial experience; experience with Distributed Control Systems (DeltaV).
  • Preferred: Ability to configure process control systems and troubleshoot computer hardware; experience in regulated environments (pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing) for 2+ years; experience with deviation and change control processes; understanding of S88; familiarity with control theory; strong teamwork, communication, and attention to detail.

Additional Requirements

  • Able to provide 24 hours per day, 7 days per week on-call support approximately 1 week per month.
