Role Summary
The Materials and Biophysical Characterization group is responsible for physical and biophysical characterization across our development pipeline, including small molecules, biologics, and vaccines. We seek a highly self-motivated scientist with experience in biotherapeutics and materials characterization. As an Associate Principal Scientist, you will lead the physical characterization of biotherapeutics focusing on protein higher-order structure and particles, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the pipeline from discovery through development to launch. You will contribute to interdepartmental initiatives, build internal and external networks, and foster a culture of scientific excellence and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Lead physical characterization of biotherapeutics, focusing on protein higher-order structure and particles.
- Collaborate with development scientists to deeply understand products and processes.
- Participate on cross-functional technical teams and contribute to interdepartmental initiatives.
- Support the pipeline from discovery through development to commercial launch.
- Build a strong internal and external network across academia and regulatory communities.
- Contribute to a culture of scientific excellence and a compliance mindset.
- Collaborate with partners and stakeholders across the company to impact the pipeline and patient lives.
Qualifications
- Required: Strong background in biophysical/biochemistry/physical chemistry/material sciences
- Required: Self-motivated with an outstanding scientific track-record.
- Required: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Required: Track-record of independent problem-solving and application of advanced innovative scientific approaches.
- Required: Desire and willingness to learn, contribute and mentor junior scientists in the group.
- Required: Excellent organizational skills to multi-task and manage multiple projects.
- Preferred: Experience with biophysical and biochemical techniques for biotherapeutics characterization.
- Preferred: In-depth understanding of protein science, protein stability, and protein-protein interactions
- Preferred: Rheological characterization of complex fluids or suspensions
- Preferred: Experience with solid-state and solution characterization of small and large molecules
- Preferred: Experience with formulation development and analytical method development.
- Preferred: Experience with various modalities including mAbs, ADC, cytokine, fusion proteins, gene therapy, engineered cellular therapies

Education
- Masters in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline with a minimum of 8 years relevant industrial experience.
- Ph.D. in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
