Role: Associate Principal Scientist specializing in mechanistic downstream process modeling within biopharmaceutical development. Primary objectives include applying and advancing quantitative simulation of biologics purification processes to optimize resin selection, gradient strategies, and scale-up decisions. Responsibilities encompass building, calibrating, and validating chromatography and adjacent unit-operation models (viral inactivation, UF/DF), guiding process development, and mentoring junior scientists. The role requires leading modeling projects, translating model outputs into actionable manufacturing insights, and shaping the team’s modeling standards. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field with at least 3 years (Ph.D.) or 5-7 years (Master’s/Bachelor’s) relevant industrial experience, particularly in preparative chromatography, process development, and biological modalities (e.g., mAbs, viral vectors). Skills include expertise in mechanistic modeling platforms (CADET, GoSilico), transport phenomena, isotherms, parameter estimation, and process decision-making. Preferred skills include experience in biologics process development, Python proficiency, machine learning integration, and continuous downstream processing. The position supports biologics pipeline stages with a focus on downstream unit operations, engaging with process engineers, scientists, and technical leads to embed modeling into decision workflows. Work setup is hybrid, with some travel expectations.
