Role Summary

Associate General Counsel, Intellectual Property & Litigation. Lead and execute the Company’s intellectual-property strategy and initiatives, and manage litigation including employment disputes and protection of innovations, know-how and other IP.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Company’s IP strategy and tactical initiatives in support of the Company’s investigational and in-line portfolio;
  • Supervise global patent-litigation efforts, including managing outside counsel relationships and budgets;
  • Advise senior leadership and key stakeholders on IP licensing issues in connection with current and potential collaborations;
  • Perform patent freedom-to-operate analyses in connection with research and clinical-development efforts; develop and execute related clearance strategy;
  • Partner with R&D, clinical, manufacturing, regulatory, commercial, and business development teams to develop and execute life-cycle management strategy in connection with clinical and marketed products;
  • Perform patent due diligence and IP exclusivity assessments in support of business-development initiatives;
  • Partner with clinical, manufacturing, and R&D teams to protect drug and platform technologies through patentability assessments, patent preparation and prosecution, and trade secret strategy;
  • Manage global patent prosecution efforts toward protecting and maximizing value of the Company’s inline, research and clinical assets;
  • Review IP provisions of SEC filings; review press releases, publications, presentations, and other public releases to ensure alignment with IP strategy; and
  • Manage and oversee global trademark prosecution, maintenance, and protection.

Qualifications

  • J.D. degree and bar membership in at least one U.S. state
  • Degree in life sciences strongly preferred; M.S. or Ph.D. in chemistry and related formulation technology preferred
  • Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office preferred
  • 12+ years of experience protecting intellectual property in a regulated or healthcare environment preferred
  • Strong judgment and ability to operate in a high-stakes, fast-paced environment
