Job Summary

The Associate Director, Senior Architect will collaborate with IT functional leaders, industry experts and vendors to identify, qualify, drive adoption, implement and deliver technology and service solutions that achieve business operational outcomes and strategic goals. The Associate Director will coordinate across various shared services groups within IT and other IT functional areas to successfully align, integrate, operate and enable new and existing capabilities for Otsuka and our affiliates. The Senior Architect core responsibilities include:

Job Description

The Associate Director, Senior Architect will collaborate with IT functional leaders, industry experts and vendors to identify, design, qualify, implement, operate and drive adoption of technology and service solutions to achieve business operational outcomes and strategic goals. The Associate Director will coordinate across various shared services groups within IT and other functions to successfully align, integrate, and enable new capabilities for Otsuka and our affiliates.

Core Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

  • Technology / Service Management: Collaborate and partner with the business, IT Functional Leaders, Business Partners, industry experts and vendors to design, implement, enable and support strategic technology and service programs and projects for assigned business functions. Manage business and IT Business Partner expectations, ensure alignment to business requirements and technology/service standards. Develop and present material to gain alignment and approval from functional area colleagues.
  • Business Process and Technology Strategy: Define the technology strategy for relevant technology/service domain in alignment with strategic business goals and objectives. Understand their specific domain(s), the leading technology and/or service providers and how to apply, effectively and appropriately. Collaborate with Director, Principal Architect to develop a business aligned IT technology/service strategy and roadmap that addresses operational contingencies. Identify technology opportunities to address process ‘pain points’, enable leading practices and technology-enabled improvement opportunities. Build business case for implementation IT technology/service initiatives. Create and own appropriate implementation plans, roadmaps – timelines, ownership roles, milestones, etc.
  • Technology/Service Analysis: Direct and oversee Architects, Technical Managers, Managed Service Providers, Contract Workers to conduct technical/service reviews, enhancements and delivery. When applicable, the Senior Architect will partner with Business Partners in gathering requirements, decompose abstract and complex details/concepts into business and functional requirements, develop business cases with defined solution recommendations, evaluate and qualify opportunities, and define measurable business outcomes and ensure alignment with industry and internal standards.
  • Subject Matter Resource: Provide technology/service management expertise and working knowledge to assist in evaluating, implementing and optimizing process and execution. Maintain awareness of industry trends and provide recommendations to facilitate decision making and have knowledge for three or more functional areas.
  • Portfolio Advisor and Management: Collaborate with IT Business Partners to define IT priorities for the business and associated technology/service management investments. Assist the Director, Principal Architect manage IT portfolio including portfolio creation and budget forecast.
  • IT Connector: Understand who to engage for internal IT products/services to achieve business value. Know IT strategic platforms and drive business partners towards ‘standard’ platform solutions. Provide IT leadership updates on new IT products/services relevant to domain.
  • Vendor Management: Lead vendor and partner evaluation, selection, and management for assigned areas with oversight from Principal Architect, working with IT Vendor Management team for assigned services and projects.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 8 years of Life Sciences experience required, with 5+ years in supporting specific function area(s) in an IT customer facing role.
  • Insights and knowledge of leading technology trends and best practices which are improving the processes and strategic decision making in supported areas.
  • Working knowledge of key processes within the relevant business area and various regulations governing the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Broad business and IT capability awareness with hands on experience using or implementing domain specific technologies, applications, service management skills.
  • Experience working with globally distributed business and IT teams, especially in Japan, EU and India.
  • Superior presentation skills with the ability to influence, drive action and strategy including ability to effectively interface with all levels including senior leadership with demonstrated executive presence.
  • Superior business analysts in process design, documentation, and problem solving activities.
  • Success delivering new capabilities using Product Life Cycle Management (PLCM) and System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices and managing a complex portfolio using portfolio and project management (PPM) methodologies.
  • Working technical knowledge of integration strategies, including Cloud services, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS.
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Organizational change management, issues & conflict management, business-technology innovation and transformation experience.
  • Multiple success in delivering new capabilities (Technology/Service) using system development life cycle (SDLC) practices and managing a complex portfolio using portfolio and project management (PPM) methodologies.
  • Up to 10-20% travel is required, based upon business needs.

Educational Qualifications

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; preferably, a degree in Computer Science, Engineering or adjacent fields. Advanced degree in in sciences, business administration, or pharmaceuticals is optimal.
