Position Overview
QC Leader of Leaders builds QC leadership and steers multi-team QC operations to meet site production demands, driving operational excellence, financial stewardship, and compliance/inspection readiness.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead Firstline QC Leaders and technical staff (recruiting/retaining talent, objectives & development plans, coaching, trust/accountability/continuous learning).
- Oversee QC microbiology operations by managing workloads/resources and addressing atypical results, equipment malfunctions, and other technical issues.
- Represent QC microbiology in cross-functional/global forums; adopt best practices; ensure inspection readiness; manage lab financial responsibilities (POs/invoice approvals).
- Execute QC activities per SOPs/methods, GDP, data integrity (ALCOA+), cGMPs, EHS, chemical hygiene, and biosafety; support audits/inspections.
- Identify/escalate atypical results and deviations; support root cause investigations and CAPAs; contribute to continuous improvement; maintain training competencies.
- Provide primary QC microbiology coverage and technical guidance during site startup until full team is hired/onboarded.
Basic Requirements
- BS in science/engineering/related field.
- 5+ years in microbiology laboratory within GMP-regulated QC.
- 5+ years people leadership.
Additional Skills/Preferences
- Lead/develop first-level supervisors/team leads in GMP QC; succession planning.
- Manage multiple QC work units; balance competing priorities.
- Cross-functional influence (Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory).
- Lab budget management (forecasting, POs, spend tracking).
- Lean/Six Sigma/continuous improvement experience.
- Proficient GDP and ALCOA+.
- Strong cross-functional communication/collaboration.
Additional Information
- Location: US (Richmond, VA). Minimal travel (β€10%) after onboarding; on-call may be required.
