Role Summary

The Associate Director, Project Management is responsible for leading the planning, development, and timely execution of various internal and external projects within Halozyme to support corporate priorities and objectives. The role supports projects across all functional areas, ensuring appropriate prioritization of resources and timely delivery of deliverables. The Associate Director leads and coordinates decision-making, collaboration and problem-solving with people at all levels of the organization to accomplish shared program goals. The role also supports functional leaders with prioritization and development of high‑quality, integrated cross-functional project plans and facilitates implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Apply project management best practices in the development, initiation, planning, execution, control and closing of projects
  • Provide operational support to the project management function to build best practices and standards to proactively manage risk, day-to-day execution, reporting and communications to internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop and execute integrated project plans, identify rate-limiting factors and key dependencies
  • Maintain program-specific timelines and deliverables, including critical program, financial and communication milestones, in Smartsheet and/or other project management applications
  • Develop tracking dashboards and alerts to identify critical issues that could delay or impact programs; work with program leads to develop mitigation plans
  • Lead and coordinate decision-making, collaboration and problem-solving with stakeholders at all levels to accomplish shared program goals
  • Act as cross-functional liaison to ensure project plans remain aligned with current business or alliance strategies
  • Prioritize, organize and facilitate team agendas, meetings and presentations; generate and distribute meeting minutes and other communications
  • Manage project authorizations, scope of work, and key assumptions underpinning the project
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of Halozyme's technologies
  • Work with finance to manage the project budgeting process and monitor project spend
  • Support annual reporting and audit management as needed; provide input to portfolio prioritization and participate in other key strategic decisions; develop partner business plans or other activities to support partnerships if necessary
  • Assemble and develop effective teams that can conduct complex tasks and ensure resources are aligned to target goals
  • Motivate and lead self, team, and cross-functional groups to deliver on goals and commitments
  • Establish operational objectives and delegate assignments/projects with internal and external partners
  • Keep internal and external stakeholders informed of progress through ongoing review
  • Manage multiple projects and timelines concurrently
  • Model and train team members on efficiency tools and best practices
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business with at least 12 years of pharmaceutical drug development experience, or a master’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience in at least two of the following areas: clinical development, drug development, product commercialization, or project management in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry
  • Hands-on experience with GMP and FDA guidelines
  • Demonstrated success influencing teams, both internal and cross-company, in a matrix management environment
  • Working knowledge of project planning software, such as MS Project or Smartsheet
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and visionary skills
  • Master’s or PhD is preferred
  • PMP certification is preferred
  • Experience in project or alliance management, or managing high-level cross-functional teams or other external relationships
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

  • Physical activities: Regular desk work; occasional walking and lifting up to 20 lbs; noise level usually low to moderate
  • Travel: Travel may be required up to 10% of your time
