Role Summary

The Project Engineering Associate Director at Lebanon API Manufacturing provides leadership and direction to the Project Engineering team within the site engineering organization. The position works with the Site Leadership Team and Manufacturing Plants leadership to develop local capital projects for new installations and capabilities as well as recapitalization projects to meet production goals and the business agenda.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver the site capital projects from concept through close-out, typically $1M to $10M in value, and represent Lebanon API Manufacturing for major capital projects with Lilly global facilities initiatives.
  • Establish disciplined project implementation best practices and benchmarking, utilizing sound engineering principles, based on Lilly policies and procedures.
  • Lead both Lilly and non-Lilly professionals and project teams to safely achieve project objectives from idea to design to execution, construction, commissioning & qualification, operational readiness, and turnover.
  • Ensure capital project documentation, including business cases, financials, estimates, electronic Capital Investment Requests (eCIR) are met. Coordinate reviews/approvals including prioritization, design reviews and specifications, user requirements, procurement, permitting, etc. Develop the scope of work, budget, and schedule for capital projects and non-capital projects as assigned. Deliver local capital projects meeting time, budget, and scope requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Lilly corporate engineering and finance policies, actively work with the Lilly global engineering / technical center network to ensure alignment with corporate initiatives and utilization of best practices.
  • Responsible for supervising and coaching Project Managers/Engineers to deliver the capital project portfolio. Coordinate construction related activities and construction schedule, working with site facilities, maintenance, and operations teams. Enhance Project Engineering team with engineering and construction service providers.
  • Works with site and global finance to manage the overall site capital project budgets and tracking of spending for capital projects. Provides updates to management routinely.
  • Engages Quality and Safety to capture regulatory strategy and local requirements. the maintenance supervisors, reliability engineers, and other staff, including completing performance reviews and development planning.
  • Provide project portfolio execution coordination in support of all manufacturing areas and site objectives and provide engineering project input to key functional groups and partners.
  • In coordination with engineering function, set and reinforce Lilly standards.
  • Identify, track, and report key indicators of functional performance.
  • Support site governance through participation, influence and leadership in cross functional meetings and initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Basic Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering preferred)
    • 5+ years’ experience in engineering and/or leadership roles in project management / engineering, in chemical or life science manufacturing facilities, preferably bulk API.
  • Additional Preferences:
    • Experience in process control and automation, construction, quality, project management and controls, safety, process engineering.
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or equivalent preferred.
    • Ability to collaborate with a team, make independent decisions, and influence diverse groups.
    • Ability to instill teamwork within the department and demonstrate key interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to provide innovative solutions to plant, divisional, and corporate issues and leverage ideas from other functional areas.
    • Be a role model for team members in terms of performance and behaviors; help people improve their performance and close performance gaps with training, professional development, and coaching interventions.
