Role Summary

The Associate Director – Process Control & Automation Engineering is responsible for the supervision of the process control engineers and technicians that support the daily operations of the facility. The role includes developing the productivity and capability of the team to ensure reliable and compliant control applications and systems are used in the manufacturing of Gene Therapies, and partnering to influence and implement the process control agenda across functional disciplines, supporting the business plan priorities and compliance objectives. The position is part of a startup environment for a greenfield GMP manufacturing site with startup expected to begin in 2026–2027.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative Leadership: Supervise and coach the process control team, complete performance reviews and development plans; staffing, recruiting, resource planning, and succession planning; coordinate process control work; review and monitor financial performance; develop and implement the Process Control Engineering Business Plan.
  • Operational Excellence: Demonstrate commitment to environmental, health, and safety (including PSM); identify, track, and report key indicators of functional performance; ensure the team operates in a state of compliance.
  • Organizational Capability: In coordination with automation and compliance consultants, set and reinforce standards for appropriate rigor in automation work products; ensure focus by engineers and completion of critical assignments with monitoring and reporting; actively participate in site leadership and management sub-teams.

Qualifications

  • Required: Minimum B.S. in Engineering (preferably Electrical Engineering)
  • Required: 5+ years of experience in Process Control and Automation Engineering, preferably in Gene Therapies or API manufacturing
  • Preferred: State licensure as a Professional Engineer (not required but encouraged)
