The Associate Director of Construction & Contractor Safety is responsible for developing, implementing/maintaining, and providing global oversight and governance of environment, health and safety (EHS) programs. Minimize risk to employees and facilities, reduce environmental footprint, and minimize EHS liability.
Responsibilities:

- Visible, trusted leader who coaches and reinforces best practices on active jobsites.
Key Objectives/Deliverables:
- Oversee AbbVie construction contractor safety programs, tools, training, and compliance to meet/exceed regulatory requirements.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to develop and sustain EHS systems, processes, and programs.
- Lead investigations of incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; ensure lessons learned are shared and acted upon.
- Drive continuous improvement to reduce incidents and enhance leading indicators.
- Embed high-level safety considerations for AI and new technologies.
- Implement AbbVie internal technical standards and EHS network best practices across projects.
- Introduce automated tools/technology for safety compliance, analysis, and evaluation.
- Partner with construction companies to ensure highest standard of contractor employee health & safety.
Additional skills/preferences:
- Presenting EHS KPIs to senior leadership; major construction projects and Greenfield experience; relevant professional certifications (e.g., project management; EHS/construction certifications).
Qualifications:
- Bachelorโs in an EHS-related field (Engineering) plus 10+ years EHS experience, or Masterโs plus 8โ10 years; manufacturing/R&D EHS experience required.
- Implementing EHS regulations, incident investigations, regulatory interactions, and managing cross-functional teams.
- Planning/resource balancing; incident/problem assessment; relationship-building/conflict resolution; decision-making/influence; project/program management.
