This group uses molecular cell biology, genetic, and transcriptomic profiling techniques, as well as genetic animal models to understand muscle physiology and pathophysiology at the cellular and molecular level, with the goal of identifying new therapeutic and diagnostic platforms for muscle degenerative diseases and inflammatory conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the strategic framework for muscle biology research, including identification of new therapeutic targets—particularly for genetic diseases—and incorporation of emerging technologies and scientific developments into the research pipeline.
  • Design, coordinate, and supervise complex in vitro and in vivo studies investigating muscle development, physiological and metabolic function, regeneration, and disease mechanisms.
  • Guide and manage a team of scientists, research associates, and technical professionals to deliver high-caliber, rigorous, and impactful research results.
  • Lead and set clear short- and long-term objectives to ensure the production of quality scientific output.
  • Oversee project workflows, making critical decisions regarding project continuation, and facilitating the efficient transition of drug targets through developmental stages.
  • Actively engage in cross-functional leadership meetings, contributing expertise in muscle cell biology and advocating the team’s vision.
  • Promote collaboration between therapeutic areas and technology groups, fostering relationships and utilizing resources to enhance research outcomes.
  • Review and authorize muscle-related documentation, including regulatory submissions, manuscripts, and contracts.
