Purpose
Drive development of global strategic publication plans for priority and/or complex therapeutic areas, as assigned. Oversee execution of scientific publications (clinical manuscripts, abstracts, posters, oral presentations) meeting medical/scientific objectives. Provide managerial oversight (performance assessment, training/feedback, personnel issues, talent retention). Represent Global Scientific Publications on cross-functional teams and lead/participate in initiatives impacting medical publishing practices/processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional Publications Team(s) for assigned therapeutic areas; develop publication strategy with global stakeholder input; oversee execution of publication plans to meet timelines and budgets.
- Communicate key/sensitive information to therapeutic area and senior leadership; address and resolve publications-related issues.
- Provide managerial oversight for internal staff supporting multiple compounds/indications; ensure accuracy and adherence to timelines and Publication Policy/procedures.
- Represent Global Scientific Publications at cross-functional meetings; contribute to discussions; share information; determine resource/headcount needs.
- Maintain expert knowledge of regulations/policies/guidelines for scientific publication preparation/production; ensure compliance; advise on publishing standards, trends, and practices.
- Build and maintain cross-functional business relationships; communicate effectively; present information professionally and objectively.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Corporate/Divisional policies and procedures; implement solutions to enhance efficiency and reduce redundancy/expenditure.
Qualifications
- Bachelorโs degree required; PhD/PharmD/Masterโs preferred. CMPP/AMWA or similar certification/credential is a plus.
- 5+ years medical/scientific publications (or related) experience required; pharmaceutical industry/medical communication agency experience required; people management required.
- Demonstrated leadership and cross-functional team leadership experience.
- Experience with cross-functional initiatives that expand reach/influence; ability to navigate senior management relationships and deliver strategic presentations.
- Experience developing/motivating direct reports; addressing performance; developing and implementing processes/projects.
- Ability to handle complex political situations, operate in ambiguity (โgrayโ), and make decisions with limited information; good judgment on escalation level.
- Strong ability to distill/package information for varied audiences; manage direct reports (performance assessments, goals, growth plans); stay compliant with current industry publication requirements.
