Role Summary

The Associate Director, Marketing Operations Review Management leads a team responsible for planning and executing the US Material Review Process (MRP) to ensure effective, compliant delivery of promotional and non-promotional communications, tools and programs to all stakeholders. The role sets process standards for the review process across US Commercial Marketing and Sales Excellence, medical, regulatory, and other key stakeholders, guiding the team to align with the brand’s goals and priorities. The individual is solution-oriented and data-driven, capable of leveraging Marketing Operations capabilities and infrastructure to achieve brand objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to Director, Marketing Operations Review Management within the US Therapeutics Operations organization.
  • Partners with US therapeutic area leadership across Marketing, Medical, Regulatory, Legal, OEC, HR, and Business Technology.
  • Oversees a team of approximately 10-15 full-time employees and contractors.
  • Accountable for Therapeutic Area review team structure and resource management.
  • Takes on large scale projects with unclear objectives and drives to completion.
  • Represents Marketing Operations in cross-functional TA-related activities.
  • Understands the spirit and intent of policies and is able to “make the call”.
  • Aligns team priorities with the brand’s goals and objectives and supports strategies and objectives.
  • Provides solutions and contingency plans, exerts authority for exceptions to process, and holds self and team accountable for results; offers innovative solutions to project hurdles.
  • Stays immersed in organizational priorities and leverages knowledge of IBT/customers goals to partner and support strategies and objectives.
  • Shares and documents best practices and lessons learned to drive consistency and enhance overall functional and business success.
  • Proactively looks for ways to improve, streamline and simplify internal processes and drives implementation of process/system changes in line with the Marketing Operations Continuous Improvement Roadmap.
  • Demonstrates critical, creative thinking and problem-solving skills, and the ability to produce clear, concise and persuasive written and verbal communications; exhibits strategic thinking with insights and recommendations.
  • Collaboratively partners with cross-functional teams to drive effective outcomes and drive changes to policies/procedures when marketplace conditions change.
  • Establishes a productive work environment by creating trust, transparency and respect within the team.
  • Manages resources within the team to align with therapeutic area initiatives and priorities.
  • Creates opportunities to recognize and reward outstanding individual and team performance and consistently provides clear and transparent feedback.
  • Completes all phases of Performance Reviews including setting goals, providing regular feedback/coaching and development planning.
  • Proactively and consistently exhibits strategic thinking by analyzing metrics and enhancing data with insights, trends and recommendations and presenting key metrics and trends to stakeholders (e.g., Quarterly Business Reviews).
  • Builds high-performing teams and elevates the skills of the entire team.
  • Formulates goals and strategies to achieve business objectives.
  • Ability to grow and leverage team members’ skills across the department.
  • Provides positive leadership and productive influence across the organization.
  • Recognized by staff, customers, senior management, vendors, and cross-functional partners as a leader/expert in the material review process and systems.
  • Effectively utilizes all available resources, either within or outside of direct span of control, to manage diverse workload, maximize productivity, motivate team members, and encourage innovation.

Qualifications

  • B.A./B.S. Marketing, Communications, Advertising or Business or equivalent business experience within AbbVie or a related industry
  • 8+ years of experience in marketing, project or program management
  • 3+ years of experience in pharmaceutical industry
  • Proven management experience across multiple functions including management of exempt personnel in fast-paced, service/team environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to distill highly complex requirements into compelling business objectives, and influence across functions and levels.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities in complex, compliance regulated department
