Purpose
- Associate Director of eDiscovery (eDiscovery and Legal Operations, Legal) supporting eDiscovery capabilities across the EDRM spectrum: information governance, identification, preservation, collection, processing, review, analysis, production, and presentation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage eDiscovery SOPs/workflows across the EDRM spectrum to ensure best practices, defensibility, and efficiency.
- Partner with business areas to preserve data under legal hold requirements (including automated workflows and guidance for evolving technologies, data migrations, and system retirements).
- Develop and manage data collection processes from enterprise systems/data sources; ensure metadata overlays and chain-of-custody documentation.
- Manage acquisition integration (legal holds, data collection, and data migration into Lilly systems).
- Provide eDiscovery guidance to business and technology teams on defensible preservation and collection.
- Oversee processing, hosting, and review platforms and workflows.
- Metrics and reporting.
- Evaluate and implement eDiscovery tools/technologies to improve operational capabilities (including automated workflows and data collection).
- Drive adoption of AI/ML (technology-assisted review, predictive coding, advanced analytics, AI).
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Contribute to eDiscovery program vision/roadmap; manage eDiscovery vendors to inform the roadmap.
- Mentor/develop team members; collaborate cross-functionally (Legal, Privacy, Records Management, IT, Compliance, Security, and business units).
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelorโs degree in a related discipline (information systems, computer science, information management, legal studies, or related).
- 8 yearsโ experience in eDiscovery operations or legal technology, with hands-on management of eDiscovery tools/platforms across the EDRM lifecycle.
- Authorization to work in the United States full-time (Lilly does not sponsor visas/work authorization, including F-1 CPT/F-1 OPT/F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1).
Additional Skills/Preferences
- ACEDS certification in eDiscovery.
- Strong analytical/decision-making skills.
- Strategic mindset; knowledge of eDiscovery requirements and evolving case law.
- Experience collecting data from complex enterprise databases with metadata overlay mapping; defining litigation strategy/tactics for complex multi-national matters.
- Expertise with eDiscovery platforms for preservation, collection, culling, processing, review, and production.
- Process improvement, innovation, and automation skills.
- Ability to anticipate/avoid problems; strong problem-solving and communication.
- Ability to assess/manage risk; strong judgment and attention to detail.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication; effective teamwork and ability to lead cross-functional teams; able to manage competing priorities.
